Speaker Julia Graves
Julia Graves is a quilter, teacher and artist, and owner of Special Occasion Quilts (SOQuilts).
Artist Statement - I am intrigued by the interaction of color, line and pattern and enjoy creating movement, drama and depth in my quilts. I try to incorporate my faith into the quilts I make and donate a lot of quilts to charity. I am particularly drawn to scrap quilts and color arranged in rainbow order.
Julia Graves has a free handout on Color for all guild members. If you go to her website, www.soquilts.com and sign up for her newsletter, you will be emailed a link to her handout on Color that you can download. Enjoy!

MARCH MEETING
Chris Kirsch
3/6/2025
Chris Lynn Kirsch is a quilter extraordinaire who stitches magic from her log home deep in the woods of southeastern Wisconsin. She eventually began designing her own pieces and a passion for art quilts evolved.
MARCH WORKSHOP
Mariner's Compass
3/8/2025
Our March workshop will be the Mariner's Compass with Chris Lynn Kirsch. Please email Karen C. to sign up. The cost for the workshop will be $50.
Compass Capers (6–hour workshop)
Draft a traditional Mariner’s Compass using only a pencil and ruler, then sew directly on the pattern using foundation piecing techniques and NO TEMPLATES!
Compasses can be made any shape and any size once the technique is learned.
Supply List
1. Basic Sewing Supplies (pins, paper & fabric scissors, ripper, name tag, etc.)
2. Sewing machine
3. Bring one of the following: small iron & ironing surface, wooden finger iron,
or small wall paper seam roller
4. Rotary cutter, mat and ruler (6″x24″)
5. Add-a-quarter ruler (optional)
6. Mechanical pencil
7. Color pencils
8. Transparent tape
9. Fabric:
1. 1 yard “border” – this is the fabric the compass will be placed on. A
multicolor print works well here.
2. 1/2 yard light background (behind points)
3. 1/4 yard each of a light and dark value of three different colors (6 fabrics
total). These fabrics will make up the points of the compass. The light
and dark value of each of the colors gives the points a 3-dimensional
look. Pull these colors from the multicolor border fabric.
4. Chris will provide paper for drafting the compass.
